On February 5, 2025, Penn Hills High School proudly celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day, recognizing the achievements of female athletes and the importance of sports participation for women and girls.

During lunch periods, female students participated in an open gym where they had the option to play volleyball, basketball, and football. Students also celebrated the spirit of girls and women in sports by visiting the photo booth, viewing photos of Penn Hills' female athletes in action this school year, and reading inspirational quotes highlighting women in sports and Black History Month. Additionally, students had the opportunity to learn about spring sports and complete a short sports interest survey to receive a free prize.

In addition to Penn Hills alumna and Athletic Director Ms. Stephanie Strauss, who organized the event, several other female coaches and athletic alumni attended. These former student-athletes helped distribute prizes, shared valuable insights on mental health and athletics, and joined students in playing volleyball. Their presence served as an inspiration, encouraging the next generation of female athletes to stay active, confident, and engaged in sports.

Penn Hills High School remains committed to empowering young women through sports and celebrating the progress made in women's athletics.
