Penn Hills Honors Beloved Teacher Mr. Josh Willy at Basketball Doubleheader
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Penn Hills School District came together to honor the life and legacy of Mr. Josh Willy, a beloved teacher who dedicated 23 years to the district.
As a tribute, students, staff, and community members wore blue and white - reflecting his love for Penn State - during the boys' and girls' basketball doubleheader against Shaler Area High School.
Before the start of each game, Penn Hills High School Principal, Dr. Bernard Taylor spoke about the indelible mark Mr. Willy left on the Penn Hills community and everyone he encountered.
Penn Hills High School senior Isabella Pivirotto shared a few heartfelt words about Mr. Willy's kindness and support for his students.
"He had open arms to everyone no matter who it was or where they were coming from. He would always put smiles on everyone's faces," she remarked.
To honor his memory, a moment of silence was held before each game. A memorial table displayed a photo of Mr. Willy, a banner featuring his well-known motto, and a book where students, staff, and community members could leave messages reflecting on the incredible person he was.
In a further show of support, proceeds from the night's 50/50 raffle were donated to the Willy family. His wife and three children were in attendance and witnessed the outpouring of love from a community that will always remember him.
Mr. Willy's legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication will forever be a part of the Penn Hills community.
