Congratulations on the Success of Shrek The Musical
From small-town stage to big-time buzz, Penn Hills High School's rendition of Shrek The Musical stole the spotlight with its infectious energy.
This year's musical involved over 60 students across the cast, stage crew, and orchestra, each of whom contributed to the show's resounding success.
Notably, junior Zach Burkovich, who played the role of Shrek, stands as one of the six nominees for the prestigious 2024 Gene Kelly Award for Excellence in High School Musical Theater "Best Actor Award." As part of this honor, Zach, along with senior Rory McConnell, who depicted Fiona, will perform Shrek's opening number for the Gene Kelly Semi-Finals which will take place at the Benedum Center. Additionally, Zach will participate in a medley featuring all Best Actor Nominees.
Adding a new element to this year's production, students from Forbes Road Career and Technology Center's Cosmetology Program lent their expertise, volunteering their time to enhance each cast member's appearance. With their help, every cast member looked like they were making their "Broadway" premiere.
The production attracted around 2,000 attendees across the four show dates, marking the highest attendance in over four years. Opening night featured a "Meet the Characters" event where audience members had the opportunity to take photos with their favorite cast members.
Additionally, we'd like to thank the many staff members, parents, alumni, and community members who volunteer their time each year.
With such success, the district looks forward to continuing to produce high-quality musicals and engaging audiences for years to come.
