Summer School Credit Recovery

School counselors will be sending failure letters to families of students who require credit recovery or summer school courses at the end of the school year. These letters will specify the courses needed. It's important for parents and students to carefully read all the directions provided in the credit recovery brochure and the FAQs page to understand the process thoroughly.

  • Registration and Payment:
    • All registration and payment processes are conducted online; there is no need for parents to visit school buildings.
    • Registration is open from June 1 to July 11, 2024. Late registrations will not be accepted.
  • Course Completion:
    • Courses are designed to be approximately 60 hours long. Students should plan to dedicate at least 15 hours per week to their courses.
    • Students have four weeks from the enrollment date (not the registration date) to complete their courses. The countdown starts once the course is paid for and enrollment is confirmed via email.
  • Support and Resources:
    • All instruction and assignments are delivered and submitted online. The platform used is Geniussis, where students can access lessons that may include videos, readings, and interactive activities.
    • Students have access to a content teacher through the online platform for any course-related queries.
  • Special Considerations:
    • If a student has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), parents should indicate this during registration so that appropriate accommodations can be arranged.
    • The courses are not NCAA approved, which is relevant for students looking to participate in collegiate athletics.
  • Monitoring Progress:
    • Parents can monitor their child's progress through the Geniussis platform. It’s also possible to contact the Waterfront Learning teacher assigned to their child for more detailed updates.
  • Scheduling Conflicts:
    • Courses cannot be paused for vacations or other activities. If a student needs an extension due to extenuating circumstances, this will involve additional fees.
  • Fees:
    • The cost ranges from $157.50 for 1-13 days of access to $275 for 2-4 weeks.
  • Contact Information:
    • For course-related issues, contact Waterfront Learning at 412-394-4996.
    • If there are issues reaching a school counselor during the summer, parents should contact the school principal.

For a comprehensive understanding, parents and students should refer to both the emailed brochure and the FAQs document provided by the school.
