District Statement on the Passing of Officer Joseph “Ramir” Lewis-Hicks

It is with deep sadness that the Penn Hills School District shares the passing of Officer Joseph "Ramir" Lewis-Hicks, who served as Assistant Director of School District Safety and Security. 

Officer Hicks was a selfless and dedicated leader whose top priority was always the safety and well-being of students and staff. As a retired police officer, he brought a wealth of experience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his role. Every day, he fulfilled his mission: to ensure students and staff made it home to their families. 

Officer Hicks will be profoundly missed by the entire Penn Hills community. His presence, leadership, and the care he showed for others are elements of a legacy that will not be forgotten. Officer Hicks often reminded us: "We make a living by what we get. But, you can make a life by what you give."

Grief support services will be available for Penn Hills High School students and staff. We encourage anyone in need of support to take advantage of these resources as we honor and remember Officer Hicks.
