Penn Hills School District will celebrate the one-year anniversary of exiting financial recovery on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, highlighting a year of significant progress in financial stability, academic achievement, facility improvements, and student support.
May 7, 2025 – Penn Hills – The Penn Hills School District is proud to celebrate the one-year anniversary of exiting financial recovery on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. in the Senator Jay Costa Media Center at Linton Middle School. Media are invited to interview Penn Hills administrators, board members, and staff.
The district will commemorate its progress and accomplishments since officially exiting financial recovery in May 2024, a milestone announced by Pennsylvania's Secretary of Education, Dr. Khalid Mumin, at Linton Middle School.
Over the past year, the district has made notable strides in financial stability, academic growth, facility improvements, and student support. Some of the most significant highlights include:
- Securing more than $4 million in grant funding
- Integrating school-based mental health services
- Improving building-level academic performance scores
- Establishing an in-house security team
Dr. John Mozzocio, District Superintendent, believes these kinds of changes are only possible when everyone is involved.
"We brought in the community and listened to different voices, to stakeholders, teachers, and students. We're moving forward by listening to their voices."
The district also extends its gratitude to the Penn Hills School Board of Directors for its leadership, dedication, and support throughout the recovery process and beyond.
Following the celebration, guests are invited to attend the Special Voting Meeting and HR/Policy and Finance Committee board meeting at 6:00 p.m.
Penn Hills School District remains focused on reinvesting in academics, expanding student support, and advancing long-term strategic planning. With a renewed sense of momentum, the district is committed to building a strong, sustainable future.
