Assessments

The Penn Hills School District acknowledges that assessment and evaluation of student performance enables students, teachers, and parents to track the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. The process of evaluating student performance must be based on evaluation criteria that are clearly defined and aligned with the District's curricular goals. It must be accurate, valid, and trustworthy. The performance of students will also be compared to the Pennsylvania Core Standards.

Standardized Testing

The Penn Hills School District is able to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of its curriculum through the use of standardized testing. Currently, all students in grades 3 through 8 take the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests in English, Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, students in fourth and eighth grades take the PSSA science exam. At the conclusion of Algebra, Biology, and 10th Grade Literature, students take the Keystone Exams. These tests are administered at both the Middle and High Schools.
